CLAY BAR   £35 - £65

The safe removal of the bonded contamination from you vehicles bodywork and windows that washing alone cannot remove.

Road tar, tree sap, insect remains, paint overspray, industrial fallout and acid rain deposits are all enemies of your paintwork, regular washing removes loose dirt but not these contaminants. If left, these pollutants will eventually oxidise, burn or rust through, and eventually destroy your vehicles paintwork.

WHAT IS A CLAY BAR AND HOW DOES IT WORK?

Detailing clay is, not surprisingly, not actually clay. It's in fact a mixture of soft plastic resin (polybutene) and abrasive particles of varying grades. Detailing clay is used along with a lubricant which allows the clay bar to glide smoothly as it is rubbed over the paint surface. Because these contaminants are on the surface of the paint they are exposed to larger abrasive forces than the paintwork, this results in the contaminants being abraded away without damaging the paintwork.

HERE IS AN EXAMPLE OF THE PROCESS!

CONTAMINATED PAINTWORK                        CLAY PROCESS                        CONTAMINATION ON CLAY BAR        DE-CONTAMINATED PAINTWORK

If you look closely you can see the contaminants as specks in the paintwork, in this instance its rail dust in the form of iron filings due to this vehicle often being parked at a railway station. If not removed these iron filings will rust through the paintwork and begin rusting the bodywork. The second picture shows the detailing clay being gently rubbed over the paintwork, the next picture shows just how much contamination has been removed from just half of the rear bumper and the final picture shows the finished result. The contaminates have been removed and look just how much sharper the reflections are!

This process in no way covers up the contaminates, as you can see it completely and permanently removes them. However, if you don’t protect your new finish fresh contaminants will once again bond to your paintwork. We therefore highly recommend a hand polish and a protective wax after all clay bar treatments. Not only will this help protect your paintwork from these fresh contaminants, it will leave it ultra smooth with a excellent high gloss finish.
