SCRATCH REMOVAL
Scratches are one of the most visually obvious defects of a vehicles bodywork; they reduce your vehicle's aesthetic appearance and therefore reduce its resale value. It's for this reason many people will resort to having parts of their bodywork re-sprayed. In most cases this often looks worse, is far more expensive and totally unnesceary as for a fraction of the cost of a re-spray we can more often than not completely remove them!
How is this possible you ask? The short answer is we remove a very small ammount of lacquer to re-level the surface below the the scratch, thus compleatly removing it.
Scratch removal involves the same processes we use when correcting paintwork during a detail, the big difference is scratches are a lot deeper than the swirl type defects we remove by rotary polishing, therefore an extra stage is required. This involves using extremly fine 2000-3000 grade wet and dry sanding sheets to re-level the lacquer below the scratch, compleatly removing the scratch but leaving behind sanding marks.
We then remove this using the correction techniques talked about earlier. We begin with a medium grade cut polish on a polishing pad to remove the sanding marks but again leaving behind a different type of defect called hologramming. Finally this is removed using a fine polish on a finishing pad to leave your paintwork with the kind of depth and lusture it had before.
